Make Mentoring one of your 3 Things for Canada!
If you’ve lived in Calgary for awhile, you’ve probably heard of the 3 Things for Calgary initiative. The idea behind the project is that if every one of us does three things for our community, Calgary will be that much better. The “3 Things” can be anything from hosting a BBQ for your neighbours to volunteering with a local charity.
For Canada’s 150th, Mayor Naheed Nenshi has taken the “3 Things” concept beyond Calgary and is challenging the rest of the nation to join in: “Let’s get every Canadian doing 3 Things for Canada and celebrate our country in the process.”
Mentoring an internationally trained professional is a great thing to do for your city AND country! What better way to celebrate Canada, than by getting to know someone who is new to the country?
You’ll get to share your career knowledge and experience while learning about another culture. Not only will you make Calgary better for somebody else—by mentoring, you’ll become more connected to your community, too.
One of our mentors recently said it best: “Really, I don’t see it as giving back. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship. I learn from her, she learns from me and it works well that way.”
At CRIEC, in partnership with Bow Valley College, we match mentees with mentors in their professional fields.
