Laurel Jeanne Madro, Program Coordinator
As the Program Coordinator, in the School of Global Access at Bow Valley College, I have been directly engaged with CRIEC prior to 2010. It has been an exciting and rewarding experience being involved in the creation of the mentorship program and seeing it grow, change lives and open up opportunities. I have been working specifically with internationally trained professionals since launching the Corporate Readiness Training Program (formerly known as the Work Experience for Immigrants Program) in 1999. My career began in Education, teaching high school social studies and science but moved to working with adult learners at Bow Valley College (known as Alberta Vocational College back then) in 1996.
There is excitement and challenges when moving to a new place and having to re-establish yourself. Although I am originally from Saskatchewan, I have lived in 3 countries, 4 provinces and 10 different cities during my life time. Finding a mentor is a real gift in helping this process move forward in a meaningful, expeditious way.
I really enjoy living and working in Calgary, with all the opportunities for outdoor fun such as; running, hiking, skiing, biking and just walking my dog.
