Jolene Martinez, Mentorship Program Assistant
I have spent more than 7 years at Bow Valley College working with learners in academics. In 2017 my career took an exciting shift when I accepted the position of Mentorship Program Assistant in the School of Global Access working in collaboration with CRIEC. I have always enjoyed working with internationally trained professionals; it’s special to hear their life experiences, as well as provide guidance and support their transitions into Canada.
Growing-up, I witnessed first-hand the struggles my parents faced as newcomers – whether it was the settling into a new environment, overcoming the language barrier, or finding employment. Having a mentor on your side provides the confidence and courage that our mentees may need during their transition into the Canadian culture and workplace.
My cultural roots, as well as being born and raised as a true Calgarian has lead me to always welcome diversity and inclusion. In my spare time, I love exploring new restaurants, traveling and love being part of the Zumba community.
